A Florida family whose mailbox was knocked over checked security camera footage and discovered the cause was an unusual hit-and-run involving a horse.
Daniela Reyes said her family discovered the mailbox was knocked over Saturday outside their home in Golden Gate Estates and assumed a car must have been involved.
Reyes’ husband was able to track down security camera footage, and the video gave the whole family a shock.
“I’m in the bathroom, and I hear him say, ‘Oh my gosh, you won’t believe it,'” Reyes told Gulf Coast News Now. “I come out there and look, and it’s a horse.”
The video shows a horse traveling at a high speed and colliding with the mailbox, causing its rider to fly off into a nearby ditch.
The rider and horse were able to leave the scene without any apparent serious injuries.
“He looked like he was going pretty fast,” Reyes said. “I don’t know what happened, if he lost control or the horse got distracted. No idea.”
Reyes said her family doesn’t intend to press any charges.
“Our main concern was that the guy was OK and the horse looked OK,” Reyes said. “But we were just laughing, we could have never imagined it.”
Another mischievous horse made headlines earlier this month when it escaped from Curly’s Cowboy Center in New York and went running through John F. Kennedy International Airport property.
The horse was safely contained by Port Authority police and returned home unscathed.
