A pair of North Carolina siblings who use family birthdays to play the lottery together wound up winning a prize of $25,000 a year for life.

Winnabow residents Jason and Marci Lowry told North Carolina Education Lottery officials they bought their $2 Lucky for Life ticket from the E-Z Way Grocery on North Howe Street in Southport.

They used a series of numbers representing family birthdays for the ticket, and ended up matching all five white balls in the Dec. 27 drawing.

“We are thrilled that the winning numbers represent special dates,” the siblings said.

The winners said the prize money will go toward paying bills and funding car and home repairs.

“This is really sweet,” Jason Lowry said.
