A wildlife sanctuary in England is asking the public to keep watch for a “naughty teenager” flamingo that escaped from the park by vaulting over a wall.
Paradise Park in Hayle, Cornwall, said the flamingo, named Frankie, escaped from her enclosure Sunday morning by flying over a garden wall, despite her feathers being clipped.
“I don’t think she knows what she’s looking for to be honest — she’s just like a naughty teenager,” sanctuary owner Nick Reynolds told the BBC. “We had sightings back down in Hayle yesterday, she has been spotted so we are desperate to hear that someone has found her. We need to get her back as soon as possible, we are really beside ourselves to be honest.”
Reynolds said Frankie hatched July 1, becoming the second flamingo bred at the park and the first to hatch naturally on a nest and be reared by its parents.
Park officials said they are concerned about the dangers posed to Frankie by foxes and other predators.
“We need to get her back as soon as possible. If she’s in water then she’s OK but up on the land, you know it’s very worrying for us,” Reynolds said.
