Firefighters in central Kentucky came to the rescue of a cow spotted stranded in a Boyle County lake.
The Boyle County Fire Department said its Water Rescue Team and Large Animal Rescue Team were dispatched Sunday morning to a lake near Wells Landing Road, outside of Danville, on a report of a cow in the water.
The crews deployed rescue boats and where able to secure the cow to one of the vessels so it could be guided to shore.
“Once on land, firefighters faced additional challenges due to the rocky terrain and steep embankment,” the department said on social media. “Crews worked together to safely move the animal through the rocky area and up the hillside to a secure location.”
The department said it was not clear how long the cow had spent in the water, but it appeared to be uninjured and is expected to recover fully from its ordeal.
