A group of 2,082 volunteers participated in a clean-up project around the Milwaukee area and broke a Guinness World Record in the process.
The 31st Annual Milwaukee Riverkeeper Spring Cleanup, organized by the non-profit Milwaukee Riverkeeper and cleaning products company Tru Earth, involved 2,082 volunteers cleaning up litter and other debris at more than 120 Milwaukee-area rivers and green spaces on Saturday.
The event broke the Guinness World Record for the most participants in a river clean-up (multiple locations). The previous record stood at 1,795 participants
“Today really belongs to the volunteers who showed up and got to work,” Jennifer Bolger Breceda, executive director of Milwaukee Riverkeeper, said in a news release. “This record only happened because so many people care deeply about our rivers and each other. We’re grateful to Tru Earth for working with us to set this world record, but it’s our community that made this possible.”
