Wallaby captured after escape from New Jersey zoo

A wallaby was safely captured in New Jersey on Tuesday morning after escaping from its enclosure at a zoo in Cape May County.

The Cape May County Sheriff’s Office said on social media that the deputies and officers from the Middle Township Police Department were assisting the Cape May County Park & Zoo with the search for a wallaby that escaped from its enclosure overnight.

The 2-year-old male marsupial had been spotted wandering loose near the Cape May Court House in Middle Township.

The sheriff’s office updated the post just before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to report the wallaby “has been safely recovered and is on his way home.”

Details of the wallaby’s capture, and how it had managed to escape its enclosure, were not yet released.
