Loose wallaby tours Ohio college campus

Local authorities descended on an Ohio college Friday morning when an escaped wallaby went hopping through campus.

Skippy, a wallaby belonging to Carolyn Reno, chair of veterinary technology at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, broke loose about 8:30 a.m. Friday when Reno brought him to the school to meet high school students visiting the vet tech program.

“Turned around to close the car, and he jumped up and broke apart his kennel and he took off,” Reno told WHIO-TV.

Sinclair College Police and other local emergency responders descended on the school to help wrangle Skippy.

The wallaby was safely captured outside the Montgomery County Job & Family Services building after about an hour and 20 minutes on the loose.

“He’s OK, he’s very nervous. He needs to calm down a little bit, but he is doing very well, and we are just so happy to get him back,” Reno said.

The school shared a video on social media showing some of Skippy’s time on the loose.

“It’s a kangaroo? It’s a cat? It’s a…. Skippy the Wallaby running late for class,” the post said.
