Longtime NBC engineer Charlie Jabolnski dies

Former NBC engineer Charlie Jabolnski died Saturday at age 69. His publicist, Harlan Böll, confirmed his death on Monday.

Jablonski died at his Lake George, N.Y., home. His 16 years at NBC included work on the 1988 Seoul Olympics and 1996 Atlanta games.

He won 12 engineering Emmys for Olympic and World Cup broadcasts and attained the rank of Vice President of Engineering and Technology during his time at NBC. He was nominated for a total of 20 Sports Emmys.

Jablonski was chair of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Technology and Engineering Awards Committee from 1988 to 2011. He still served the committee as Chair Emeritus and was Vice Chair of the National Awards Committee.

A graduate of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he was also a former President of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
