An Iowa Lottery player scored a $59,500 prize from a Pick 4 drawing just a few months after collecting a $26,500 prize from the same game.
Williamsburg resident Marie Johnson-Fernandez told Iowa Lottery officials she bought multiple tickets for the Oct. 10 midday drawing with different bet types and amounts, but each bore the number combination 1-0-1-0.
She ended up matching all four numbers in the right order, earning a total $59,500.
“I saw 1-0-1-0 and I’m like, ‘Wait a minute!’ I had to blink a few times,” Johnson-Fernandez said of when she checked the drawing results. “Then I got excited like I always do.”
Johnson-Fernandez previously won $26,500 from a Pick 4 drawing in April.
“My whole system is to remain calm,” she said. “I may scream out loud, but my whole thing is to not hyperventilate and pass out because I’m usually someplace by myself.”
The winner said her prize money will help her pay bills, help others and pay for a cruise she booked for next year.
