An escaped wallaby spotted hopping through a South Carolina neighborhood ended up being fished out of a backyard pool by police and animal control officers.
The Summerville Police Department said on social media that officers responded to a report of a wallaby hopping through a local resident’s backyard on Wednesday.
“A brief pursuit ended with our new friend jumping into a pool, where he was safely rescued,” the post said.
Officers worked with Dorchester County Animal Control to reunite the wallaby with its owner.
“We later learned he belongs to a nearby property where another wallaby and a kangaroo live too,” police wrote. “Here, they are well cared for by a local veterinarian and have more space to roam than the kangaroo enclosure at the Columbia Zoo.”
