Firefighters in Ontario responded to a frozen harbor where a dog chasing geese ended up stranded on an ice floe.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue personnel responded to a call from a dog owner who reported their dog had pulled loose during a walk and chased some geese out onto the ice covering the harbor, winding up stranded on a floe.
Personnel from Stations 3 and 5 put their training to use and were able to retrieve the canine and return it to the animal’s owner.
“Reminder: Ice is no longer safe,” the Thunder Bay Fire Fighters Association said on social media. “With shipping channels now open, conditions can change rapidly — ice can shift, thin and break apart without warning. Stay off the ice and keep pets leashed near the waterfront.”
