The Massachusetts Port Authority officially broke a Guinness World Record by creating a soccer ball measuring 47.9 feet in diameter.
The soccer ball, installed in Piers Park II in East Boston, was approved by Guinness World Records and officially took the title of the world’s largest soccer ball from a 39.98-foot ball created in Qatar in 2013.
The ball, created by Britten, Inc. and Creative Inflatables in Ohio, celebrates the FIFA World Cup games that will be played at Boston Stadium in Foxborough in June and July.
The massive soccer ball will be on display to the public until June 18. Massport officials said the materials used to create the ball will be recycled.
