Animal rescuers in Quebec are asking the public to keep an eye out for a juvenile kangaroo on the loose along Montreal’s South Shore.
The Galahad SPCA said the kangaroo was first reported Wednesday being kept improperly in a stable, and officials believe it may have been being kept illegally.
The SPCA said no kangaroo permits had been issued in the area.
The marsupial subsequently escaped and has been repeatedly spotted in a nearby field.
The Miller Zoo has offered to give the kangaroo a new home, but SPCA officials said Quebec’s Ministry of the Environment told them that a permit would be required to capture and transport the kangaroo, which has been sticking close to theopen field in Boucherville.
Ministry officials are scheduled to visit the area on Monday to determine how best to handle the situation.
