A woman who jumped into the water to rescue her dog in Florida ended up needing to be rescued alongside the canine.
Body camera footage released by the Hallandale Beach Police Department shows police and Broward Fire Rescue personnel lowering a ladder from the Intracoastal Waterway seawall to rescue the woman and her dog.
The Thursday rescue was also caught on camera by a witness on the other side of the canal.
“I guess she jumped in because the dog was trying to come out,” witness Dimitry Shaposhnikov told WPLG-TV. “It was low tide, so at that point for her to even get to somewhere was almost impossible. I didn’t even see a ladder or anything to come up, so she was stuck.”
The woman, identified only as Diana, confirmed she had been attempting to rescue her dog, Cookie.
“I didn’t see how he slipped; he probably just, maybe his legs just went away, and he fell, but he fell behind me,” she told WSVN-TV. “I was just panicking, I didn’t know what to do, just jump over there, and I didn’t have my phone.”
Diana confirmed she and Cookie were both uninjured. She said she will be more careful when walking the dog in the future, as he known to be both large and clumsy.
