Firefighters in Maryland came to the rescue of a mother raccoon stuck in a tree and her babies trapped deeper inside the plant.
The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services said its Station 11 crew responded to a call for assistance from local animal control.
“Animal Control was first called for an adult raccoon stuck in a tree,” the department said on social media. “After rescuing and releasing it, they realized the raccoon had been trying to reach its babies trapped deeper inside the tree. The kits were too young to climb out, and the tree was too narrow for the mother to reach them.”
Firefighters used specialized tools to cut through the tree and reach the kits. The babies were reunited with their mother.
