Netflix has announced that its upcoming supernatural series The Boroughs from executive producers the Duffer Brothers will premiere on May 21.

Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters and Bill Pullman star in the eight-episode series, which follows a retirement community that uncovers a dark secret.

Jena Malone, Carlos Miranda, Seth Numrich, Alice Kremelberg, Rafael Casal, Dee Wallace, Ed Begley Jr., Jane Kaczmarek, Eric Edelstein, Mousa Hussein Kraish and Beth Bailey also star.

Netflix released a series of first-look photos on the upcoming drama on X.

Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) are the creators and the showrunners. This is the Duffer Brothers’ next project after wrapping up Stranger Things for Netflix.

Matt and Ross Duffer are executive producing under their Upside Down Pictures production banner alongside Hilary Leavitt. Ben Taylor is also executive producing and will direct the first two episodes.

“From the beginning, we knew we wanted The Boroughs to feel equal parts scary, mysterious, exciting and emotional,” Addiss and Matthews said in a statement. “The challenge was to create a world that could hold all of these different tones at once. Which is why it was so fun to work with the Duffer Brothers – the masters of balancing heart and horror.”

“While the heroes in The Boroughs have a few more years on them than the kids from Stranger Things, they are a similarly lovable bunch of misfits, and we can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that is at turns scary, funny, and deeply touching,” the Duffer Brothers said.
