Disney+ has started filming The Koreans, a new drama inspired by the FX series The Americans, which was created by Joe Weisberg and starred Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys.

The updated project will be available on Disney+ outside the United States and stream on Hulu domestically.

Set in South Korea during the political and cultural shifts of the early 1990s, the story centers on a seemingly typical middle-class couple living a double life.

Unknown to those around them — including their own children — they are highly trained North Korean operatives embedded in the South. As they navigate their mission, the pair grapple with questions of loyalty, identity and family, all while a determined counterintelligence officer closes in on the truth.

Lee Byung-hun, known for Squid Game, and Han Ji-min, of Heavenly Ever After, lead the cast as the undercover agents.

The FX series The Americans won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama.
