Sarah Michelle Gellar announced on Instagram on Saturday that her revival of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer is not moving forward. Gellar was set to reprise her role of Buffy Summers training a new slayer in a Hulu series.
“Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with Buffy: New Sunnydale,” Gellar said on Instragam.
Gellar only announced the project three years after Executive Producer Chloe Zhao had pitched her an idea. Nora and Lila Zuckerman joined to develop the new series.
“Thanks to Chloe, I was reminded how much I love her and how much she means not only to me but to all of you and this doesn’t change any of that,” Gellar said.

Ryan Kiera Armstrong had been cast as the new anointed vampire slayer Buffy would be training. Gellar shared Armstrong’s casting in May.
The original Buffy, the Vampire Slayer series ran for five seasons from 1997-2001 on The WB and then two more seasons on UPN.
Original Buffy creator Joss Whedon was not involved in the revival following misconduct allegations first from his wife, Kai Cole, and later Buffy co-star Charisma Carpenter.
