Police in Texas reunited a man with his blind pigeon after the pet bird hitched a ride in the bed of a pickup truck at the owner’s business.
Luis Valdez, owner of L&R Auto Service, said his pet pigeon, Kevin, is well-known by the customers at his Irving business.
“He’s home with me on the weekend. My whole family knows him, and many of my customers now know him. They go straight to see him,” Valdez told NBC DFW.
Valdez said he adopted Kevin after finding the featherless bird had been kicked out of his mother’s nest.
He said Kevin is blind and unable to fly, so he was concerned when the pigeon went missing from his shop after inspecting a customer’s truck.
Valdez contacted Irving police, who were able to track down the customer.
“I’m about to tell you the weirdest thing you’ve ever heard,” an officer tells the truck’s owner in body camera footage posted to social media.
The officer confirms the owner had just had their truck inspected at L&R Auto Service, and agrees to let officers take a look inside.
Police found Kevin safely in the bed of the truck.
“Is the pigeon under arrest?” an officer jokes in the video.
Police brought Kevin back to the shop for a reunion with Valdez.
