An Ohio zoo announced the birth of a southern white rhino calf — the second to be born at the facility in a matter of just a few weeks.
The Wilds in Cumberland announced 12-year-old Kali, who was also born at the zoo, gave birth to a healthy female calf on March 28.
Bernard, the newborn’s father, has now sired a total 17 calves in his lifetime, the zoo said.
The calf was born just weeks after a male calf was born to another mother rhino at the zoo.
“The new female calf has not yet been introduced to the male calf born earlier this year, and both will continue to develop alongside their mothers,” the zoo said on social media. “As soon as both calves grow, begin to explore, interact, and show their personalities, introductions will be planned.”
