Authorities in North Carolina are hot on the trail of an unusual feathered fugitive — an emu spotted running loose in Rocky Mount.
The Rocky Mount Police Department said on social media that Rocky Mount Animal Services received multiple reports of an emu on the loose in the North Green area.
Police said officers are patrolling the area in an attempt to locate the flightless bird, and investigators have identified and made contact with the emu’s owner.
“If you see the emu, do not approach it. Instead, please contact the Rocky Mount Police Department non-emergency line,” the post said. “Thank you for helping us keep both the community and the animal safe.”
