Pop music star Harry Styles unexpectedly dropped by this weekend’s edition of Saturday Night Live as actor Ryan Gosling was performing his monologue as guest host.

Styles, who is slated to guest host the sketch-comedy show next weekend, sat in the front row, smiling and wearing a T-shirt that said, “I hate you,” on it.

When Gosling nervously pointed him out, the crowd cheered.

As the actor tried to go on with his philosophical musings about space and man’s relevance compared to it, the camera moved to capture Styles’ reaction.

“I’m sorry. Why are we on Harry Styles?” Gosling asked.

“I’m just listening,” Styles said.

“Well, could you listen less cool?” Gosling requested. “I think your coolness is becoming a bit of an issue.”

The camera then went to a split-screen between him and Styles.

When Gosling balked, the camera man was revealed to be wearing a “I [heart] Harry” sweatshirt.

The bit ended with Gosling singing Styles’ song, “Sign of the Times,” and sadly declaring, “Nobody wants this,” as the rest of the cast came out to back him up — and to get a better look at Styles.

Gosling, who will soon be seen in the film Project Hail Mary, also took part in several comedy sketches, playing an annoying wedding guest, cyclops, the live-action version of the animated character Beavis and a principal attempting to discipline middle-school students for note passing during class.
