HBO’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone TV series is recasting Ginny Weasley for Season 2.
Gracie Cochrane played the supporting role in the upcoming first season, which is to debut this Christmas.
But the young actress will not continue in the part as the character becomes more important to the story in later seasons.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances Gracie has made the challenging decision to step away from her role as Ginny Weasley in the HBO Harry Potter series after Season 1,” Gracie’s family said in a joint statement Monday.
“Her time as part of the Harry Potter world has been truly wonderful, and she is deeply grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience. Gracie is very excited about the opportunities her future holds.”
Bonnie Wright played the role in eight blockbuster Harry Potter movies, which featured Daniel Radcliffe in the title role.
