Police in Florida responded to an unusual call and ended up wrangling an escaped emu “before the coffee even had a chance to kick in.”
The Dade City Police Department said on social media that officers responded to a morning call about a loose emu that “decided it was the perfect day for a stroll around town.”
“Before the coffee even had a chance to kick in… dispatch sent us on an emu hunt,” the post said.
The officers were able to capture the emu without any injuries to humans or birds.
“We train for a lot of things… but ‘chasing an emu’ wasn’t in the academy curriculum,” police wrote.
The post included photos of the Australian bird taking a ride in the back of a patrol cruiser after the capture.
