Firefighters in Virginia came to the rescue of a cow that wandered into a pond bank and ended up stuck in the deep mud just under the surface of the water.
The Stewartsville-Chamblissburg Volunteer Fire Department said on social media that crews responded Sunday to a call for a large animal rescue along Diamond Hill Road.
“A cow had become severely stuck on a pond bank, and the owner was unable to free the animal,” the post said.
Firefighters assessed the situation and “it was determined that a haul-back system was required,” officials wrote.
Photos show the cow, fitted with straps, being hauled out of the mud and water.
“The animal was successfully freed and is in healthy/good condition,” the department said.
