Firefighters in Virginia came to the rescue of a deer that found its way into a retention pond and was unable to find a path out of the water.
The Fincastle Volunteer Fire Department’s Company 4 said on social media that the department was alerted to the plight of the stranded deer by a Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office animal control deputy.
Crews responded to the water retention pond near the Roanoke Cement plant and found the deer swimming in the algae-covered water.
Firefighters corralled the deer into a corner of the pond and lassoed the animal so it could be pulled out of the water.
The deer was found not to be injured and was taken to the edge of the property to be returned to the wild.
