A fireball lit up the early morning sky in the southern United States, with sightings reported in Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Arkansas Mississippi and Texas.
Th fireball was caught on camera in multiple locations just after 5 a.m. CDT Sunday.
The American Meteor Society received more than 50 reports of sightings from multiple states, with the most reports coming from southern Louisiana.
Fireballs are caused when space debris burns up while reentering the earth’s atmosphere. Experts say the particularly bright fireballs typically represent objects that are at least 3 feet in diameter.
Experts are still working to determine whether any pieces of Sunday’s apparent meteor made contact with the ground.
