Entangled deer rescued from soccer net in New York

Animal rescuers in New York’s Long Island area rushed to free a deer that had become entangled in a soccer net that was left out overnight.

The Strong Island Animal Rescue League said on social media that team members responded to a report of a deer stuck in a soccer net at a home in what was described as “a high cull area.”

“We rushed to the scene and worked as fast as we could to get the deer out safely,” the post said. “The deer had no broken bones or serious injuries and was able to run off and was seen eating on a hill an hour later and doing just fine.”

Officials wrote that the rescuers were unable to use any tranquilizers or sedatives during the rescue, due to a New York state law.

“Although Strong Island promotes athletic activities, please be sure to take your nets down when not in use,” the post said. “It can save a life!”
