The Pitt and Hacks lead the nominees at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards.
Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay will host the 78th annual Primetime Emmys ceremony Sept. 14 at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Nominees for the first two categories, Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Variety Series, were unveiled Wednesday on Today. The Bear actress Liza Colón-Zayas and Somebody Somewhere actor Jeff Hiller announced the rest of the nominations.
The Pitt, an HBO medical drama starring Noah Wyle, leads the nominees with 25 nominations, including including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Wyle in his role as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch.
Hacks, a comedy starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder that also hails from HBO, follows with 24 nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Smart in her role as Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance.
Other nominees include Widow’s Bay, an Apple TV comedy-horror series starring Matthew Rhys and Kate O’Flynn (19 nominations), Pluribus, an Apple TV drama from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan starring Rhea Seahorn (18 nominations), Season 2 of the Netflix comedy-drama Beef, starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and Cailee Spaeny (16 nominations), and DTF St. Louis, the HBO dark comedy series starring Jason Bateman, Linda Cardellini and David Harbour (13 nominations).
