Todd Meadows, a crab fishing deckhand who appeared on Discovery Channel series Deadliest Catch, has died at the age of 25.
Rick Shelford, Deadliest Catch star and captain of the Aleutian Lady, broke the news in a social media post, confirming Meadows died Feb. 25.
The post did not reveal a cause of death, but noted he died while fishing on the Bering Sea, between Alaska and Russia.
“Todd was the newest member of our crew, he quickly became family. His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away,” Shelford wrote on Facebook. “His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always.”
Warner Bros Discovery released a statement confirming Meadows’ death.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Todd Meadows. This is a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his loved ones, his crewmates, and the entire fishing community during this incredibly difficult time,” a representative said in a statement provided to USA Today.
A GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign has been launched to support Meadows’ three sons.
Deadliest Catch, which the Discovery Channel launched in 2005, follows crash fishermen as they work on the notoriously dangerous Bering Sea.
