A South Carolina woman credited a store clerk’s error with earning her a $303,000 prize from a Palmetto Cash 5 lottery drawing.
The Darlington woman told South Carolina Education Lottery officials she visited the Piggly Wiggly store on Pearl Street in Darlington and asked for a Palmetto Cash 5 ticket, but the clerk mistakenly gave her a ticket for the wrong game.
The clerk asked the woman if she still wanted a Palmetto Cash 5 ticket, and she said yes, but decided to alter her usual routine by forgoing her chosen numbers.
“I got a quick pick,” she said.
That ticket ended up matching all five numbers in the Sept. 4 drawing, earning her a $303,000 prize.
“If the clerk hadn’t made a mistake, I wouldn’t have won,” the winner said.
The woman said she plans to use her prize money to fix up her house.
