An Ontario couple collected a nearly $70,000 lottery prize 12 years after they won the same amount from a different lottery game.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. said Burlington residents Nancy and Robert Whitten scored a prize of $69,712.16 when they matched the last six of the seven Encore numbers in the Dec. 21, 2024, Lotto 6-49 drawing. Advertisement

The couple, who have been married for 41 years, previously won the same amount from an Instant Cashword ticket in 2012.

“We were at home together when I scanned our Lotto 6-49 ticket using the OLG app,” Nancy told OLG officials. “Robert was sitting right beside me when I discovered we’d won. It didn’t seem real! In fact, I checked our ticket three times to make sure I was seeing things correctly. We were so shocked.”

“It was hard to believe we’d won a second time,” Robert said. “We told our son, and he was so excited for us.”

The couple said their prize money will go toward paying bills and renovating the bathroom in their home. Advertisement
