New Jersey family's lost cat found 10 years later

A New Jersey family whose kitten escaped through an open window were reunited with their beloved pet 10 years later thanks to a microchip.

The Montclair Township Animal Shelter said on social media that a stray cat was brought in by a member of the public recently and officials scanned the feline for a microchip.

The microchip identified the feline and Asa, and a call to her owners revealed she had been missing for an entire decade.

“Ten years ago, a family adopted two kittens from a shelter. Not long after, one of them slipped out through a window and disappeared,” the post said. “This family looked and looked and looked. They posted flyers, contacted every shelter, talked to neighbors — they did everything right.”

The shelter shared a photo from the happy reunion.

“Microchips matter. Microchips work. And sometimes, they bring a lost family member home — no matter how much time has passed,” officials wrote.
