A New Jersey couple collected a $3 million jackpot from a scratch-off lottery ticket less than six months after visiting lottery headquarters to claim a $1 million prize.
The Ocean County residents told New Jersey Lottery officials the Jackpot Millions ticket was one of several games they bought from the Fischer Bay Exxon station in Ocean County.
“With our kids, we can’t really get out of the house,” the husband said. “So at the beginning of the month, we get some tickets. When the kids go to bed, we scratch a few off. We like to make it a bit of a competition — who can win the most. It seems we at least always break even.”
The husband said he realized he was scratching off a big winner before he handed it to his wife to check.
“I looked at it, held it to my chest and screamed,” the wife recalled.
“Ten seconds later, she’s laughing. This is perfect,” the husband said.
The win came less than six months after they won $1 million from a $1,000,000 Ultimate Spectacular ticket.
“I’ve always said that you only need one ticket to win big,” New Jersey Lottery Director James Carey said. “But I guess, in this case two tickets certainly didn’t hurt! This is just pure blind luck.”
The couple, who have two children with a third on the way, said the money will go toward taking good care of their growing family.
