A Maryland man went out to pick up pizza for his family and came home with a scratch-off lottery ticket worth $77,777.
The Cumberland man told Maryland Lottery officials he was picking up pizza for his family a couple weeks ago when he decided to make a quick stop at the Sheetz store on Virginia Avenue in Cumberland to buy some lottery tickets.
He bought a $10 Triple Red 7s Multiplier game and scratched it off in the store, revealing a $77,777 top prize.
“I saw I had the ‘7’ symbol and thought it was just a regular winner,” he said. “But then I saw the prize and I couldn’t believe it.”
The player scanned the ticket to double check.
“When I saw that ‘Go to Lottery’ message, I knew it was really a big winner,” he said.
The winner returned home with the pizza and winning ticket.
“He comes through the door with the pizza and the scratch-off and said, ‘Guess what I won?'” the man’s daughter said. “I had to look at it a few times to be sure.”
The man said he will use his prize money to pay bills.
