A Michigan woman said a late-night craving led to her making a food run — and scoring a $1 million lottery jackpot in the process.
The 53-year-old Kent County woman told Michigan Lottery officials she stopped at D 28 Inc. on 28th Street Southwest in Wyoming during an unplanned outing.
“I woke up hungry late one night, so I went out on a food run,” the player said. “While I was out, I bought a few lottery tickets and scratched them when I got home. It was shocking when I scratched off my Lady Luck 777 ticket and saw I’d won $1 million. I had a hard time going back to sleep that night!”
The winner said she is still coming to terms with the reality of the situation.
“I’m still in shock and it hasn’t fully sunk in that I won $1 million, so I haven’t made any specials plans for the money just yet,” she said.
She said the prize money will go into savings for the time being.
“It’s always fun to hear stories of how winners found out they won huge lottery prizes, like this one where a late-night food run turned into a $1 million win,” Michigan Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said. “Winning a big lottery prize when you least expect it is one of the many reasons instant games are a favorite among our players. Congratulations to the winner on her $1 million win!”
