A Maryland man used the ages of his grandchildren to play the state lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game and ended up winning $50,000.
Essex resident John Lang told Maryland Lottery officials he took a one-month break from buying lottery games that ended with a trip to Mace Liquors on Mace Avenue in Baltimore County last week.
Lang bought a Bonus Match 5 ticket, selecting numbers that correspond with the ages of his grandchildren.
He returned to the store the next say and handed his ticket to a clerk.
“I asked them to check my numbers. They said ‘Mr. John, you just won $50,000,'” Lang said.
Lang said his prize money will go toward home improvement projects and saving for the future.
