Filming has begun on the BBC’s adaptation of Nikki May’s debut novel, Wahala, starring Criminal Record lead Cush Jumbo.
The six, hour-long episodes will follow four Nigerian-British women in their 30s, who are best friends living in London.
Jumbo will co-star with Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde and Susan Wokoma in the series, which was written by Theresa Ikoko.
“Theresa’s scripts for Wahala are an absolute joy — riveting, full of rich and complex characters, and everything you’d want from Nikki May’s exquisite book brought vividly to life on screen. It’s no surprise that it’s attracted a cast of this magnificent caliber,” Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, said in a statement Tuesday.
Ikoko, Leonora Lonsdale and Remi Weekes will take turns directing episodes.
