A dog escaped from his crate at Canada’s Vancouver International Airport and was on the loose for 9 days before being safely apprehended by rescuers.
Petsearchers Canada said the 8-month-old dog, named Tommy, escaped from his crate after arriving at the airport from South Korea on Oct. 9.
A pair of rescuers from the organization were summoned to assist with the search.
“After searching every corner of the parking lots and terminals, they shifted focus to quieter areas nearby. There he was — hiding deep in the bushes just off a busy airport road,” Petsearchers Canada said on social media.
The rescuers placed a trap at the scene, but Tommy fled “north toward the industrial and forested areas, full of coyotes and heavy traffic.”
Tommy eventually made his way back to the airport, where he was spotted at the fuel yard and next to a runway.
“Cameras and traps were set, and Tommy cautiously checked one out — halfway in before backing out,” the post said. “Then, he disappeared again.”
Petsearchers Canada continued to monitor the airport grounds for any sign of the wayward canine.
“Finally, Tommy reappeared,” officials wrote. “A freshly baited trap was moved into position, and this time, he went all the way in. Safe at last!”
Tommy was flown to the country by adoption group Furever Freed Dog Rescue. The group said he had been at a shelter where he was due to be euthanized.

Furever Freed said Tommy is doing well after his 9 days on the loose.
“He is wanting lots of belly rubs, snuggling up to you for pets and affection,” the rescue group said.
