Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers came to the rescue of a large buck that wandered onto the grounds of a high school and got its antlers entangled in batting cage nets.
CPW Southwest Region said on social media that the deer found its way to Durango High School’s batting cages and ended up stuck in the netting. Advertisement
“The buck was exhausted and stressed from trying to break out of the entanglement,” officials wrote. “Luckily, Wildlife Officers Brandon Dye, Luke Clancy and Steve McClung were able to quickly respond. They darted the deer and moved fast to cut the netting away.”
Soon after, the deer was back on its feet. Thanks to the quick reporting and actions of our wildlife officers, this buck will live to see another rut. pic.twitter.com/qgd3DiMVsT— CPW SW Region (@CPW_SW) December 4, 2024
The deer soon recovered from the tranquilizer and was able to climb back to its feet and return to the wild, CPW said.
