Ball python found trespassing at fire academy in Washington, D.C.

A ball python found its way into the D.C. Fire and EMS Department’s training academy and was safely apprehended by emergency personnel.

The department said on social media that the snake, dubbed Pete the Python, was found slithering around the Bravest Training Academy on Saturday.

“Like his distant alligator cousin recently found at the Wharf, Pete is not indigenous to the area and is probably a pet set loose by its owner,” the post said.

The snake was identified as a ball python.

“Since Pete does not meet recruit standards, other than an ability to squeeze into tight spaces, he has now found a new home with animal control,” fire officials wrote.
