The Elmwood Park Zoo in Pennsylvania is introducing the public to its newest arrival: a baby two-toed sloth born at the facility.
The Norristown zoo said the mother, named Beanie, was already six months pregnant when she was brought to the zoo from Rhode Island earlier this year, and she gave birth in August.
The mother and baby — temporarily named Beanie’s Baby — made their public debut this week at rhe zoo’s Harmony Hideaway exhibit.
Officials said they likely won’t know the baby’s sex until it is about a year old, when it can more safely be separated from its mother long enough for a thorough veterinary examination.
